A Case Report on Perioperative Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Nursing for a Diabetic Patient with Hiatal Hernia
This paper presents a case study on the perioperative integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine nursing for a 58-year-old male patient with hiatal hernia complicated by diabetes mellitus. The patient had a long-term history of poorly controlled blood glucose. Preoperative nursing interventions included physical examination, auxiliary tests, psychological counseling, dietary guidance, and dynamic blood glucose monitoring. Blood glucose management involved a 6-hour preoperative fasting period followed by a 2-hour intravenous infusion of glucose-sodium chloride solution combined with insulin adjustment. Postoperative care focused on vital signs monitoring, drainage tube maintenance, optimal positioning, and complementary traditional Chinese medicine therapies (e.g., acupoint application, auricular acupressure, and acupuncture) to enhance recovery. Through these comprehensive interventions, the patient recovered well without complications and was discharged shortly after surgery. This case aims to summarize the perioperative integrated nursing pathway for hiatal hernia patients with diabetes, providing clinical practice references.
