This paper reports a case of a 66-year-old male patient with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) who was treated with Tai Chi Qiangji exercises in addition to conventional care. The patient had experienced intermittent low back and neck pain for over 30 years, which had recently worsened. Upon admission, he presented with limited mobility in the lumbar and cervical regions, right hip joint pain, morning stiffness lasting more than 1 hour, a wall-to-head distance of 22 cm, a finger-to-floor distance of 62 cm, and cervical spine range of motion less than 5°. After admission, the patient received conventional care combined with Tai Chi Qiangji exercises for functional training. His pain was relieved, his mobility improved, his self-care ability enhanced, and his risk of falls decreased. The morning stiffness time was reduced to 30 minutes, the wall-to-head distance to 14 cm, the finger-to-floor distance to 35 cm, and the cervical spine range of motion to 30°. This case demonstrates that the combination of Tai Chi Qiangji exercises, drug therapy, and nursing intervention can effectively improve the quality of life of AS patients, enhance their confidence and self-care ability.
