Bloodletting Cupping Combined with Auricular Acupressure for Alleviating Pain in a Case of Herpes Zoster with Liver Channel Stagnation-Heat Pattern: A TCM Nursing Experience
This article summarizes the nursing experience of combining bloodletting cupping with auricular acupressure to alleviate pain in a patient with herpes zoster manifesting as a liver channel stagnation-heat pattern. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), herpes zoster is categorized under "snake-string sores," attributed to internal injury by emotional factors leading to liver stagnation transforming into fire, with toxic-heat accumulating in the liver channel and overflowing to the skin. The primary pathogenesis involves meridian obstruction and blood stasis. Based on syndrome differentiation, this case employed TCM-specific interventions—bloodletting cupping and auricular acupressure—alongside lifestyle guidance, dietary advice, and psychological support. The integrated approach aimed to clear liver heat, unblock collaterals, and relieve pain, effectively mitigating herpes zoster symptoms. Post-treatment, the patient showed significant improvement in skin lesions, sleep quality, and pain reduction, demonstrating enhanced recovery.
