Nursing Report on Acupoint Injection Combined with Chinese Herbal Hot Compress to Alleviate Nausea and Vomiting After Chemotherapy in Gallbladder Cancer: A Case Study
This study focused on a 74-year-old female patient with postoperative liver metastasis of gallbladder cancer who developed severe nausea and vomiting after chemotherapy, complicated by underlying conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, reflecting the complexity of her condition. An integrated Chinese-Western medical approach was adopted, including conventional chemotherapy, acid suppression, gastric protection, and nutritional support in Western medicine, while Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) identified the syndrome as spleen-stomach deficiency. Interventions included acupoint injection (Neiguan [PC6] and Zusanli [ST36]) combined with Chinese herbal hot compress (applied to Zhongwan [CV12] and Shenque [CV8]), alongside multidimensional nursing care involving physiological-psychological-social assessment, precise nursing diagnosis, personalized intervention design, implementation of integrated measures, and dynamic outcome evaluation. Results demonstrated a significant reduction in nausea and vomiting frequency, marked improvement in nutritional indices and psychological status, and stable symptom control during follow-up after discharge. This case highlights the unique advantages of integrated Chinese-Western nursing in managing chemotherapy-induced gastrointestinal reactions, offering a safe and effective paradigm for refractory chemotherapy-related nausea and vomiting (CINV) in clinical practice.
