Nursing Report on Intermittent Catheterization in a Patient with Multiple Cerebral Infarctions Complicated by Spinal Cord Injury
This article summarizes the nursing experience of implementing clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) in a patient with multiple cerebral infarctions and C4–C6 spinal cord injury. Upon admission, a comprehensive assessment was conducted, and a protocol of "intermittent catheterization every 4 hours combined with bladder function training" was established, supplemented by postural decompression, infection prevention, rehabilitation exercises, and psychological support. After two weeks of treatment, the single residual urine volume decreased to ≤80 mL, with no urinary tract infections observed. The Barthel Index improved from 15 to 30 points, while the SAS score decreased from 76.25 to 45 points, indicating significant enhancements in voiding safety, daily living function, and emotional well-being.
