Experience in Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Nursing for a Patient with Pneumonia Caused by Aspiration and Stage IV Pressure Injury on the Right Heel
This article summarizes the clinical efficacy of Compound Huangbai Liquid continuous wet compress in treating a patient with hypostatic pneumonia and severe (Stage IV) pressure injury on the right heel. The integrated approach combined Western medical interventions—aggressive management of hypostatic pneumonia, local debridement of necrotic tissue, wound disinfection, and promotion of granulation tissue formation—with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles. The latter involved syndrome-differentiated nursing, utilizing Compound Huangbai Liquid with sterile gauze for sustained wet compress to inhibit infection, remove necrotic tissue, and accelerate wound healing. Complementary measures included nasogastric tube nutrition support, psychological counseling, daily life care, and health education. The combined therapy successfully healed the Stage IV pressure injury, demonstrating advantages such as infection prevention, reduced hospitalization duration, lower post-discharge care costs, and enhanced clinical recognition of TCM wet compress techniques among nursing staff. This approach warrants broader application in geriatric pressure injury management.
