Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Nursing for a Patient with Severe Pneumonia Complicated by Hypoalbuminemia: A Case Report
Severe pneumonia complicated by hypoalbuminemia is a common and clinically critical condition characterized by complex pathophysiology and significant nursing challenges. This study presents a case report to evaluate the efficacy of an integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine (TCM-WM) nursing approach in improving clinical outcomes and promoting recovery in a patient with severe pneumonia and hypoalbuminemia. The patient received comprehensive interventions, including Western medical treatments (antibiotic therapy, mechanical ventilation, and nutritional support) combined with TCM-based nursing strategies, such as oral administration of herbal decoctions, acupoint application, TCM retention enema, herbal hot compress, and auricular acupressure. The results demonstrated that the integrated nursing model exerted synergistic effects through multi-target mechanisms: while stabilizing vital signs, TCM interventions significantly enhanced immune function, improved gastrointestinal motility, and promoted albumin synthesis. This approach effectively corrected metabolic disturbances, providing evidence-based support and a novel clinical pathway for nursing care in severe pneumonia with hypoalbuminemia.
