Nursing Experience of Integrated Chinese-Western Medicine in Treating a Case of Pyogenic Arthritis of the Right Shoulder with Upper Limb Swelling
Pyogenic arthritis, caused by purulent bacterial infection, manifests acutely with pain, swelling, and functional impairment, severely affecting patients' quality of life. This paper reports the nursing management of a patient with pyogenic arthritis of the right shoulder accompanied by upper limb swelling, demonstrating significant efficacy through integrated Chinese-Western interventions. Upon admission, the patient presented with severe right shoulder swelling, pain, and anxiety. Western treatment primarily involved antibiotics and analgesics, while Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) employed herbal compresses (Tazhi therapy) to warm meridians, dispel cold, and activate blood circulation. A systematic assessment guided the formulation of a personalized nursing plan, encompassing pain management, infection control, functional exercise, psychological support, and nutritional guidance. Post-intervention, the patient exhibited marked reduction in swelling, alleviated anxiety, and improved wound healing. This case highlights that integrated Chinese-Western therapy combined with meticulous nursing can effectively ameliorate symptoms of pyogenic arthritis, potentially reducing surgical necessity, and offers valuable insights for clinical practice.
