A Nursing Report on Yang-Unblocking and Nodule-Dissolving Gua-Sha Moxibustion Therapy for Insomnia in a Cholangiocarcinoma Patient
This study aims to evaluate the intervention effect of the Yang-unblocking and nodule-dissolving gua-sha moxibustion therapy on insomnia symptoms in patients with cholangiocarcinoma. The research method employs a multimodal traditional Chinese external treatment technique: Firstly, gua sha oil is evenly applied to the shoulders, neck, and back. The technique of warm scraping is then performed on bilateral shoulder and neck areas, Tinggong, Yifeng, Fengchi, Fengfu, and other acupoints using the even reinforcing and reducing method (the operation direction follows the principle of "from top to bottom, from inside to outside", with the force gradually increasing until the skin turns slightly red or shows petechiae). For local nodules or areas of stasis, the rubbing and scraping method is used to promote circulation. Subsequently, the gua sha cup is heated and applied to the aforementioned acupoints to enhance the effect through the synergy of heat. The Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS) was used for quantitative assessment. The results showed that the AIS score of the patients significantly decreased from 8 points (moderate insomnia) to 3 points (normal threshold) after treatment, with shortened sleep latency and improved sleep continuity. This study indicates that the Yang-unblocking and nodule-dissolving gua-sha moxibustion therapy can effectively alleviate insomnia related to tumors, providing a scalable traditional Chinese medicine solution for non-pharmacological intervention of sleep disorders in cancer patients.
