Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Therapy with Early Rehabilitation Training in the Nursing Care of a Stroke Patient
Stroke is a cerebrovascular disease with high disability and mortality rates, classified as a common clinical emergency. Its treatment requires a comprehensive approach encompassing acute-phase life support, functional rehabilitation during recovery, and long-term management of sequelae. The integrated Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Western medicine rehabilitation nursing model aims to combine the strengths of modern medicine and TCM to provide holistic, individualized rehabilitation pathways for stroke patients in the recovery phase. This case report summarizes the nursing experience of a recurrent stroke patient with concurrent pulmonary infection during recovery. Through comprehensive risk assessment, an integrated TCM-Western medicine care model centered on "acute-chronic phase differentiation and simultaneous root-branch treatment" was implemented. Western nursing focused on precise airway management, targeted anti-infection therapy, and tube/skin safety, while TCM interventions included nasogastric administration of Buyang Huanwu Decoction to replenish Qi, activate blood circulation, and unblock collaterals, as well as foot baths with Wenshen Tongluo Decoction combined with acupuncture and moxibustion to dredge meridians and promote functional recovery. Systematic interventions effectively controlled pulmonary infection, with no adverse events during hospitalization, leading to stable discharge. This case demonstrates that this model can effectively integrate the advantages of both traditional Chinese and Western medicine, providing a referenceable nursing plan for patients with severe stroke accompanied by complex complications, and has significant clinical promotion value.
