A Report on the Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Nursing of a Patient with Coexisting Cardiopulmonary Diseases and Gastrointestinal Dysfunction Based on the Principle of "Staged Nursing"
This paper reports the experience of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine nursing for a 60-year-old male patient with coronary heart disease, heart failure, bacterial pneumonia, and gastrointestinal dysfunction. The nursing process was centered on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome differentiation and nursing, and staged nursing was implemented based on the evolution of the disease and syndrome. During the acute stage, the focus was on "harmonizing the stomach, reducing counterflow, and promoting lung function and relieving asthma". After the gastrointestinal symptoms were relieved, the nursing shifted to the "nourishing the heart, calming the mind, promoting blood circulation, and unblocking the meridians" stage to address the root cause. TCM nursing techniques such as acupoint application, intradermal needling, and sliding cupping were applied in stages, and were complemented by comprehensive measures including dietary care and emotional intervention. After the nursing intervention, the patient's clinical symptoms significantly improved, laboratory indicators stabilized, anxiety was relieved, and the patient mastered disease-related knowledge and self-care points, and was discharged smoothly and referred for coronary artery bypass surgery. This case demonstrates the unique advantages of TCM dynamic syndrome differentiation nursing guided by the principle of "staged nursing" in complex and critical cases, providing practical references for the clinical nursing of similar cases.
