Nursing Report on Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine for a Patient with Severe Para-infectious Encephalopathy and Potential Multi-system Complications
This paper presents a nursing case study of a 20-year-old patient with severe para-infectious encephalopathy. The nursing team implemented an integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine (TCM-WM) protocol under a multidisciplinary team (MDT) framework. Western nursing focused on airway management, epilepsy prevention, infection control, and nutritional support, while TCM nursing applied syndrome differentiation principles ("phlegm-heat clouding the mind" and "qi deficiency with dampness obstruction") through techniques such as head massage, auricular acupressure, moxibustion, and external herbal therapies. Post-intervention, the patient showed improved gastrointestinal function, reduced complications, stabilized vital signs, and minimal neurological responses. This case demonstrates that MDT-based TCM-WM integrated nursing can effectively enhance physiological functions, prevent complications, and promote recovery in critical care, highlighting the synergistic value of combined approaches.
