Nursing Experience of Herbal Compress Therapy in a Case of Ischemic Stroke with Diabetic Foot
This report summarizes the integrated traditional Chinese and Western nursing process for a 56-year-old male patient with ischemic stroke complicated by peripheral facial paralysis, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and diabetic foot. Upon admission, the patient received Western medical treatments including antiplatelet aggregation, cerebral circulation improvement, glycemic control, and anti-infection therapy. Traditional Chinese medicine interventions involved herbal compress therapy for facial paralysis, compound Huangbai liquid wet compresses for diabetic foot wounds, alongside oral herbal medicine, rehabilitation training, and systematic specialized nursing. After 12 days of hospitalization, the patient exhibited significant improvement in facial paralysis, restored speech function, and effective control of diabetic foot infection, with no adverse events such as ocular complications, falls, or pressure ulcers. Follow-up post-discharge indicated sustained functional recovery and satisfactory wound healing, demonstrating that herbal compress therapy combined with individualized integrated nursing is clinically effective for ischemic stroke patients with facial paralysis and diabetic foot, promoting functional rehabilitation and quality of life, thus warranting broader clinical application.
