Nursing Report on Traditional Chinese Medicine Care for a Patient with Qi-Blood Deficiency Syndrome During Postoperative Chemotherapy for Sigmoid Colon Cancer
This article summarizes the integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine nursing practice for a 68-year-old patient with Qi-blood deficiency syndrome during postoperative chemotherapy for sigmoid colon cancer. The patient was diagnosed with stage III moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma of the sigmoid colon, accompanied by perineural invasion, vascular tumor thrombus, and lymph node metastasis. The first chemotherapy cycle was initiated one month postoperatively, with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome differentiation identifying Qi-blood deficiency. Clinical interventions followed the principles of reinforcing healthy Qi, strengthening the spleen, replenishing Qi and blood, and harmonizing the stomach, complemented by TCM-specific measures such as internal and external herbal applications, acupoint sticking therapy, dietary regulation, and rehabilitation guidance. No severe adverse events (e.g., gastrointestinal reactions or myelosuppression) occurred during chemotherapy, demonstrating that integrated nursing can effectively improve Qi-blood deficiency and enhance the patient's quality of life.
