A Nursing Report of One Patient with Neurogenic Bladder and Urinary Retention Treated with Time-Selected Box Moxibustion Combined with Intermittent Catheterization
This case report describes one patient who developed neurogenic bladder with urinary retention secondary to an L1 burst fracture accompanied by nerve injury caused by a fall. The patient received box moxibustion applied to acupoints of the bladder meridian and kidney meridian selected according to the time-selection principles of midnight-noon ebb-flow (Ziwu Liuzhu), in combination with intermittent catheterization and other comprehensive rehabilitative nursing interventions. After 67 days of treatment and nursing care, the patient successfully restored bladder voiding function, with voluntary urination volumes reaching 350–450 mL per void and post-void residual urine volume of less than 100 mL. This case suggests that time-selected box moxibustion combined with intermittent catheterization holds potential application value in the management of neurogenic bladder.
