Nursing Experience of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine for PICC-Related Venous Thrombosis in A Tumor Patient: A Case Report
This study aims to investigate the risk factors, clinical characteristics, key points of diagnosis and treatment, and integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine (TCM-WM) nursing interventions for peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC)-related venous thrombosis (PICC-RVT) in tumor patients. A 69-year-old patient with colorectal cancer who developed upper extremity venous thrombosis following PICC catheterization was enrolled as the study subject. The clinical data, thrombosis onset process, TCM-WM nursing interventions, and clinical outcomes were retrospectively analyzed to summarize the essential nursing measures throughout the entire course of care. The results demonstrated that following anticoagulant therapy, specialized nursing care for the affected limb, and characteristic TCM nursing interventions including herbal fumigation and washing as well as acupoint stimulation, the symptoms of upper limb swelling and pain were completely alleviated. Vascular ultrasonography re-examination revealed the restoration of normal venous blood flow, with no occurrence of serious complications such as pulmonary embolism or hemorrhage. The PICC catheter was successfully preserved, enabling the patient to complete the subsequent treatment course.
