Integrative Chinese and Western Medicine Nursing Care of One Postoperative Patient with Intestinal Abscess of Damp-Heat Accumulation Pattern Treated by Acupoint Application Combined with Traditional Chinese Medicine Hot Compress Package
This article reports the clinical practice of integrative Chinese and Western medicine nursing care using acupoint application combined with a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) hot compress package for one postoperative patient with intestinal abscess (acute suppurative appendicitis) of damp-heat accumulation pattern. The patient was a 19-year-old female admitted for migratory right lower abdominal pain lasting one day. The TCM pattern was identified as damp-heat accumulation, and laparoscopic appendectomy was performed. In addition to routine postoperative care, a TCM hot compress package was applied to the abdomen to promote qi movement, unblock the fu-organs, activate blood circulation, and relieve pain, while acupoint application was administered at Zusanli, Shangjuxu, and Tianshu to strengthen the spleen, harmonize the stomach, and regulate fu-qi. Dietary, emotional, and rehabilitation guidance were provided concurrently. Following the intervention, the patient experienced flatulence at 18 hours and defecation at 48 hours postoperatively, with the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) pain score decreasing from 6 to 2. No complications occurred, and the patient was discharged smoothly on postoperative day 4. These findings suggest that this integrative Chinese and Western medicine nursing protocol can effectively promote rapid recovery in postoperative patients with intestinal abscess and is worthy of clinical reference.
