Case Report of Integrated Chinese and Western Nursing for a Patient with Post-stroke Sleep Disorder
To summarize the clinical nursing experience of integrated Chinese and Western nursing intervention for post-stroke sleep disorder.
Methods
2
A systematic integrated Chinese and Western nursing was implemented for a patient with post-stroke sleep disorder (syndrome of disharmony between heart and kidney). The five-step nursing process was completed, including nursing assessment, nursing diagnosis, nursing planning, nursing implementation and nursing evaluation. Nursing measures included basic Western nursing (sleep environment management, sleep hygiene education, dietary care and medication care) and characteristic Chinese medicine nursing (auricular point sticking, acupoint massage, traditional Chinese medicine foot bath, emotional care and five-element music therapy).
Results
2
After 3 weeks of intervention, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) score decreased from 18 to 9, nocturnal sleep duration increased from about 3 hours to about 6.5 hours, the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) score decreased from 16 to 8, and the Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) score decreased from 14 to 7. No adverse reactions occurred during the whole process, and the patient's satisfaction score was 95. Follow-up at 1 month after discharge showed stable sleep status.
Conclusion
2
The holistic nursing model of integrated Chinese and Western medicine based on syndrome differentiation can significantly improve the sleep quality and emotional state of patients with post-stroke sleep disorder, which has good clinical application value.
