Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Rehabilitation Nursing for A Patient with Brainstem Infarction Complicated by Type I Respiratory Failure
Abstract
This paper summarizes the integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine nursing experience for one patient with brainstem infarction complicated by type I respiratory failure. The patient had a partial pressure of oxygen of 49.40 mmHg on admission, and was definitively diagnosed with type I respiratory failure. On the basis of conventional Western medical treatment, combined interventions were delivered, including pulmonary rehabilitation training (diaphragmatic breathing, effective cough training, etc.) and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) nursing based on syndrome differentiation (auricular acupressure, acupoint application, acupuncture and moxibustion, etc.). After 28 days of intervention, the patient's blood oxygen saturation increased from 87.20% to 96.00%, the Kubota Water Swallow Test grade improved from Grade IV to Grade II, and the Activity of Daily Living (ADL) score rose from 10 points to 35 points, suggesting that integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine pulmonary rehabilitation nursing exerts positive effects on patients with brainstem infarction complicated by respiratory failure.
