Nursing Experience of Traditional Chinese Medicine External Therapies Combined with Syndrome Differentiation-Based Care in a Patient with Pelvic Inflammatory Disease: A Case Report
To summarize the nursing experience and clinical efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) external therapies combined with a dynamic syndrome differentiation-based care protocol in the management of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) with syndrome transition from qi stagnation and blood stasis to liver-kidney yin deficiency.
Methods
2
A patient with chronic pelvic inflammatory disease received staged nursing care guided by dynamic syndrome differentiation. In the early stage, the patient was identified as having the qi stagnation and blood stasis pattern and was treated with whole-back warming-unblocking gua sha using an energy moxibustion cup combined with traditional Chinese herbal retention enema, aiming to unblock the collaterals, drain stasis, and clear stagnant heat. In the later stage, as the pattern transformed into liver-kidney yin deficiency, fire dragon cupping therapy on the back was applied in conjunction with oral Chinese herbal decoctions for nourishing the liver and kidney, with the purpose of warming and replenishing primordial qi as well as enriching yin and replenishing essence. Throughout the course of treatment, comprehensive nursing measures including emotional regulation, dietary guidance, and health education were also provided.
Results
2
Following the intervention, the patient's Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score for lower abdominal dull pain decreased from 5 to 1, the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) score dropped from 55 to 38, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) score declined from 12 to 6. The patient's anxiety was significantly alleviated, sleep quality improved, and overall constitution was enhanced, enabling her to independently manage her own condition.
Conclusion
2
The combination of TCM external therapies with dynamic syndrome differentiation-based nursing can effectively relieve pain symptoms in patients with chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, improve emotional status and sleep quality, regulate body constitution, and is safe, simple, and feasible to perform, demonstrating considerable value for clinical promotion and application.
