Nursing Experience of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine for an Elderly Patient with Bladder Tamponade Complicated by Multiple Organ Dysfunction
This paper summarizes the nursing experience of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine for a 75-year-old patient with secondary multiple organ dysfunction (involving the heart, kidney, respiratory, and digestive systems) following surgery for bladder tamponade. From the Western medicine perspective, continuous bladder irrigation, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) volume management, mechanical ventilation, multi-lumen catheter maintenance, and nutritional support were implemented. From the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective, nursing interventions were closely aligned with the disease mechanism evolution from "Qi failing to control blood" to "Yang Qi exhaustion and decline," and were administered in different stages, including auricular bean pressing, acupoint application, oral administration of Chinese herbal medicine, and nursing care based on syndrome differentiation. Following 28 days of treatment and nursing care, the patient was successfully weaned from mechanical ventilation and extubated, with significant improvement in multiple organ function. The integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine nursing care demonstrates synergistic effects for elderly patients with multiple organ dysfunction.
