Nursing Care Experience of Ginger-Separated Moxibustion Combined with Flash Cupping Therapy for One Patient with Dysphagia Secondary to Demyelinating Disease
To summarize the integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine nursing experience of applying ginger-separated moxibustion combined with flash cupping therapy for a patient with dysphagia secondary to demyelinating disease.
Methods
2
A systematic nursing assessment was conducted for one patient with dysphagia associated with demyelinating disease. Targeted at the identified nursing issues, including aspiration risk, malnutrition, falls and bed-fall risk, skin impairment risk, sleep disturbance, and negative emotions, syndrome differentiation-based nursing care was implemented in accordance with the pattern of liver-kidney yin deficiency. On the basis of conventional treatment and swallowing rehabilitation training, individualized nursing measures were carried out, incorporating ginger-separated moxibustion, flash cupping, five-element music therapy, safe feeding management, nutritional support, and fall and pressure injury prevention.
Results
2
After 15 days of continuous intervention, the patient's grade on the Kubota Water Swallowing Test improved from grade 4 to grade 2, the Barthel Index increased from 20 to 80, the Morse Fall Risk Score decreased from 80 to 30, the NRS-2002 Nutritional Risk Score decreased from 5 to 2, the Braden Pressure Injury Risk Score increased from 12 to 19, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) score decreased from 11 to 6. No episodes of aspiration, fall, bed-fall, or pressure injury occurred during hospitalization.
Conclusion
2
On the premise of rigorous risk assessment and standardized safety management, ginger-separated moxibustion combined with flash cupping therapy may serve as an adjunctive intervention within the comprehensive nursing care of patients with dysphagia secondary to demyelinating disease, contributing to the improvement of swallowing function and activities of daily living. Nevertheless, the conclusions drawn from this single-case report warrant further validation through studies with larger sample sizes.
