Nursing Care Experience of the Fuyuan Tongfu Method in a Post-Stroke Patient with Constipation of the Qi Deficiency and Blood Stasis Pattern: A Case Report
Constipation is one of the most common symptoms among stroke patients. The Fuyuan Tongfu ("supporting primordial qi and unblocking fu-organs") abdominal massage technique has been shown to effectively enhance therapeutic outcomes in post-stroke patients with constipation. The essence of Fuyuan Tongfu lies in tonifying primordial qi while promoting the flow of fu-organ qi, achieving a balance between reinforcement and elimination—strengthening the root without retaining pathogenic factors and unblocking the fu-organs without damaging healthy qi. This paper summarizes the nursing experience of applying the Fuyuan Tongfu theory to a stroke patient with constipation of the qi deficiency and blood stasis pattern. Through syndrome differentiation-based care, TCM nursing techniques were employed, integrating two characteristic TCM modalities—zang-fu disease massage and warming yang jar moxibustion—alongside dietary guidance and emotional care as routine nursing measures. These approaches effectively relieved the patient's constipation symptoms and further improved the patient's quality of life.
