Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Nursing for a Patient with Necrotizing Fasciitis of the Lower Leg Complicated by Diabetic Foot: A Case Report
This paper summarizes the nursing experience of integrated Traditional Chinese and Western medicine in the care of a patient with necrotizing fasciitis complicated by diabetic foot, lower extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans, and osteomyelitis. The patient presented with complex underlying conditions, severe wound infection, poor local blood supply, and significant healing challenges. On the basis of Western medical treatments including incision and drainage, vacuum sealing drainage (VSD), and micro-skin grafting, staged Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) debridement ("Nibbling" and "Whale-swallowing" methods), internal and external administration of Chinese herbal medicine, and TCM-specific nursing techniques were combined. Throughout the process, condition monitoring, management of underlying diseases, and staged rehabilitation guidance were reinforced. Following active intervention, the infection was effectively controlled, the wound gradually healed, the limb function was preserved, and no serious complications occurred. Practice has demonstrated that integrated Traditional Chinese and Western medicine nursing can significantly promote the repair of severe and complex wounds, improve patient prognosis, and holds considerable value for clinical promotion.
