Nursing Experience of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Nursing for a Patient with Advanced Colon Cancer Complicated by Malignant Bowel Obstruction
This article summarizes the nursing experience of a patient with advanced colon cancer complicated by malignant bowel obstruction with multiple organ metastases. In response to the major nursing problems identified in this patient, including severe cancer pain, malignant bowel obstruction, anxiety and depression, and nutritional imbalance, an integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine holistic nursing approach was implemented. TCM-specific nursing techniques, including syndrome differentiation-based dietary therapy, five-element music therapy, acupoint application, and traditional Chinese herbal hot compress, were combined with Western medicine interventions such as the three-step analgesic ladder, nutritional support, and complication prevention. These measures effectively alleviated the patient's physical symptoms and improved the psychological status.
