Nursing Care of an Elderly Patient with Heart-Lung Qi-Deficiency Heart-Water Disease Complicated by Constipation Using Auricular Acupressure Combined with Bian-Stone Chinese Herbal Paste Rubbing Therapy: A Case Report
This paper summarizes the clinical nursing experience of employing auricular acupressure combined with bian-stone Chinese herbal paste rubbing therapy in the management of an elderly patient diagnosed with heart-lung qi-deficiency heart-water disease complicated by constipation. The TCM pattern differentiation identified the syndrome as heart-lung qi deficiency with blood stasis and water stagnation, accompanied by qi deficiency with fu-organ stagnation. On the basis of routine Western medical treatment and standard nursing care, a comprehensive nursing protocol was implemented that incorporated the TCM-specific techniques of auricular acupressure and bian-stone Chinese herbal paste rubbing therapy, alongside dynamic condition monitoring, pattern-based dietary regulation, emotional counseling, and standardized medication guidance. The results demonstrated that this integrated Chinese-Western nursing regimen effectively alleviated constipation symptoms in the elderly patient with heart-water disease, mitigated the high cardiovascular risk associated with straining during defecation, and markedly improved patient comfort and quality of life. This case may serve as a reference for nursing interventions in elderly patients with cardiovascular disorders complicated by constipation.
