Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Nursing Care for a Patient with Pancreatic Head Cancer of the Damp-Heat Accumulation and Phlegm-Blood Stasis Pattern: A Case Report
This paper summarizes the integrated Chinese and Western medicine nursing experience based on TCM syndrome differentiation for a patient with pancreatic head cancer of the damp-heat accumulation and phlegm-blood stasis patterns complicated by hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and multiple cerebral infarctions during the peri-chemotherapy period. Targeting the patient's core pathogenesis, the intervention principles of "clearing dampness and heat, resolving phlegm and removing blood stasis, and regulating qi to unblock the fu-organs" were adopted. Multiple TCM external therapeutic techniques, including warm moxibustion, herbal paste massage, acupoint application, and traditional Chinese medicine hot compress, were applied in combination with symptomatic Western medicine nursing and standardized management of underlying chronic conditions. Following 15 days of systematic intervention, the patient's symptoms-including abdominal distension, constipation, cancer-related low back pain, chemotherapy-induced nausea, and cancer-related fatigue-were significantly alleviated, nutrition-related indicators and tumor marker levels were concurrently improved, and the current cycle of chemotherapy was completed successfully. This case can provide an effective clinical reference for individualized integrated Chinese and Western medicine nursing practice in patients with intermediate and advanced pancreatic head cancer.
