Nursing Experience of Traditional Chinese Medicine Hot Compress Combined with Acupoint Application in Treating One Case of Nausea and Vomiting During Chemotherapy for Bone Tumor
Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) is the most common adverse reaction in bone tumor patients during the chemotherapy stage, which can significantly reduce patients' treatment compliance and interfere with the orderly implementation of antitumor therapy. This paper reports a postoperative chemotherapy patient with undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma of the left buttock who developed moderate nausea and vomiting, epigastric and abdominal distension, as well as poor appetite and fatigue after chemotherapy. On the basis of standardized antiemetic treatment in Western medicine, an external intervention protocol of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) was adopted, comprising acupoint application combined with abdominal hot compress with Chinese herbal medicine. Following the TCM therapeutic principles of fortifying the spleen and harmonizing the stomach as well as descending adverse qi and arresting vomiting, standardized external therapeutic procedures, emotional nursing, and dialectical dietary care were carried out. After 6 days of intervention, the patient's vomiting ceased, symptoms of nausea and abdominal distension subsided, dietary intake returned to normal, and no adverse events such as skin allergy or scald occurred, with the current chemotherapy cycle successfully completed. The combination of Chinese herbal hot compress and acupoint application can safely and effectively alleviate chemotherapy-related gastrointestinal reactions in bone tumor patients, featuring simple operation and suitability for clinical application and promotion.
